My deepest condolences to the Denning family. I've known Paul since junior High in Westfield. He was one of my dearest friends. If ever and whenever I needed something, Paul was there. Although we didn't get together often, when we did, my face would hurt from laughter.
Paul ol buddy, thanks for your friendship and your gifted appreciation for the absurd. I'll miss you! We'll snowboard together again on the other side.

My heart goes out to Cathy, Marcella, Paul Nicholas, and family. I will always remember Paul for his huge spirit and the way his energy, laughter, and smile were contagious whenever he was around. When we were young, he always made us feel welcome when we would flock down to Cathy's after seeing his car and always loved to make us all laugh. My thoughts are with you all.

A wonderful colleague and good friend to so many here at NJAWC. We will miss his intelligence, pragmatism, honesty and rather wry sense of humor. Our hearts go out to the family, as we thought of him as one of our own as well. We will miss him terribly. Know that he loved you all so deeply. You were what he bragged about every day!

I just remember Paul as a good man with a great sense of humor. It seemed just yesterday that he was hiding my bike up in a tree and rigging my heater in my car to go full blast when I turned it on in the middle of the Summer! Paul will be missed and my deepest condolences go out to Cathy Wagner and all friends and family from both sides.

We lost a friend, a mentor, ... a hero. I will never forget what you did for me, for us. We have lost a great Marine but an even better man. You brought us all home safe. Words are not enough to thank you. Heaven is more secure now that another warrior has joined its ranks. See you on the other side brother. Semper Fidelis!!

Paul was a man of commitment, integrity and professionalism. He often took on the role of “Train the Trainer”! People would always ask his advice because they knew they would get an honest and sincere answer!
Being a Reservist myself from another branch of Service, Paul would often kid around about loving to go with me on my Reserve weekends and just observe what a life I had……”on duty weekend!”. He would say “I should have joined the Coast Guard!” When Paul was going to be deployed on the 2nd tour to Afghanistan, I told him the he already went, and he didn’t need to go again. He said to me “you don’t understand there are kids over there and I’ve got to train them!”
I saw Paul as the Teacher of Men, who put fear and pain aside to get the job done! Not just because he was a Marine, but because of whom Paul was! He has touched, moved and inspired many both on and off the battlefield! In the Marines as in the Fire co. he wore the uniform with great pride, professionalism, and honor.
The Community, Country, and most of all his family will miss him greatly. It has been my great honor to serve alongside of Paul for both the Fire co. and this great Nation. He has gone on to serve others now and would want all of us to carry on his teachings and have boat loads of fun doing it! We will now take the lessons he has taught and in ……......honor him.
