Obituary of Franklin L Buchan

Franklin Laurance Buchan, age 85 of Whitehouse, NJ, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Born in the County of Devonport, Plymouth, England, he was the son of the late Harry and Florence Buchan. Frank was a Korean War veteran who served with the Black Watch and fought in many campaigns, for which he was awarded the United Nations Service Medal. He was also a high ranking, lifetime Freemason of the Harmony and Goodwill Lodge, No. 5958. Frank worked as a Police Detective for the Scotland Yard Metropolitan Police Force until his immigration, with his wife and two sons, to the United States in 1960. Upon arriving in America, Frank had a successful career at RCA in Somerville, NJ, working in Purchasing until his early retirement in 1985. He became a US Citizen in 1977 but was very proud to say he would always be a Scotsman at heart. He was a resident of Whitehouse since 1972 and lived there until his passing. Frank was a man of pride and distinction, a definitive member of the greatest generation. He loved nature, animals, walking, reading books, classical music, stamp collecting and military and political history. He had a devastatingly humorous dry wit and was well known for his original "one-liners" that still trigger fits of laughter to this day. He was an avid story teller and had the ability to capture the hearts and minds of those around him. He was a very brave, kind, funny, stubborn, sweet and patient soul who was loved and adored by his friends and family. Frank would not have wanted anyone to be sad over his passing. Please celebrate him with a toast, preferably with a Bass Ale or a fine glass of Port. Buchan of Lebanon, NJ, his devoted daughter, Ann Angharad Buchan and her fiancé, Richard Newman of Whitehouse and his two grandchildren, Paul Jr. and Cynthia Mason.
