Obituary of Louise Brokaw

Louise K. Brokaw, 64, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington. She was born on June 27, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA, and lived in Clinton Township for the past 38 years. Louise graduated from Bridgewater-Raritan West High School in 1968, and sang soprano in the New Jersey All-State Choir. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Bucknell University in 1972, where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority and toured with the University Chorale and Rooke Chapel Choir. She received her Master of Arts in English from Trenton State and taught English at both Bound Brook High School and Bridgewater-Raritan High School for five years. Louise taught private piano lessons for the past 35 years. She was a faithful and active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oldwick, NJ, where she served on the church council, was editor of the church newsletter, sang soprano in the church choir, and regularly attended Book of Faith bible study. Louise enjoyed spending countless hours laughing with friends, enjoying good food and drink, travelling throughout North America, cruising in the Caribbean, touring Europe, vacationing annually with family at Flying Pond in Maine, reading, playing games on her computer, lavishing attention on her grandchildren, and teaching her students. She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, J. Staats Brokaw III, and her father Ray H. Kunkel of Bridgewater. She is survived by her son, Colin Williamson Brokaw, his wife Kimberley and their children Chloe and Nathan, of Union Township; her daughter, Kaitlin James Brokaw, of Alexandria, VA; her mother, Lysod Kunkel of Bridgewater; her sister, Leah Wintemute of Bethlehem Township, and her brother, Ray Kunkel of Northfield, VT, and their families. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at a memorial service on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Oldwick, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 41, Oldwick, NJ 08858.
