Obituary of Francis X Gross

Francis (Frank) X. Gross Husband, Father, Grandfather, Veteran Francis X. Gross, 92, of Whitehouse Station, passed away on April 6, 2015 after a brief illness. Born August 9, 1922 in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the devoted son of the late John Francis Gross and Edna Mary (Ferguson) Gross. The family moved to Morristown in 1938 where he was a graduate of Morristown High, class of 1941. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946 and saw the end of the war on Okinawa in the Pacific theatre. With great fortune he met the love of his life, Helen F. Whitten and they married on June 10, 1950 spending 65 years of life, love and peace together. Mr. Gross was an Assistant Manager at New Jersey Bell Telephone Company, where he was employed for 38 years. He retired in 1983 and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. He was also a devoted Catholic. Mr. Gross was predeceased by his brothers, Jack and Robert and his sisters, Florence Saathoff and Helen Vreeland. Survivors include his loving wife, Helen; his beloved children, Steven Gross and Joanne Costello; his son-in-law, James Costello and his cherished granddaughters, Leanne Costello and Carly Mannery. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. His devotion to his family and his sense of humor will be greatly missed. A private family ceremony will be held at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
