Obituary of Gertrude Tscherwinski
Gertrude Tscherwinski, age 79 of Flemington, NJ died suddenly at home on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.
Born in Reiskirchen, Germany she was the daughter of the late Ludwig and Wilhelmine Schäfer.
She resided in Middlesex before settling in Flemington 45 years ago.
Gertrude worked as a seamstress and then a waitress at the Ryland Inn in Whitehouse. Her greatest sense of accomplishment came from her role of wife and mother to her four children.
Gertrude was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station. She was an active participant in the YMCA in Flemington and belonged to the Sanger Halle German/American Social Club in Plainfield. For many years she gave of her time delivering Meals on Wheels. She loved gardening and took great pride in her beautiful tulips.
Gertrude was predeceased by her son, Peter in 1992.
She is survived by her husband, Alexander; her two sons, Michael of Chester Springs, PA and Daniel of Bangor, PA; her daughter, Monica VanAssen of Lecanto, FL; her brother, Friedel Schäfer of Belgium; her five grandchildren, Bobby, Lori, Susan, Rachel, and Abigail and her three great grandchildren.
A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station.
Friends and relatives may visit with the family on Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888.
Burial will be in Saint Bernard's Cemetery in Bridgewater, NJ.
