Obituary of Donald Meyer
Donald Meyer, age 72 of Tewksbury Twp, NJ, died peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at the Rolling Hills Care Center in Lebanon.
Born in Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late Richard and Rosalie Meyer.
Originally from Short Hills, he moved his family to Bedminster in 1984 and then Tewksbury in 1990.
Donald’s first job after graduating from Ohio Wesleyan was as an advertising salesman for the Wall Street Journal.
He went on to work as a NY Stock Exchange Registered Bond salesman for Clark, Dodge and Co. before running the Mortgage Backed Securities Desk at Kuhn, Loeb & Co. and Thomson, McKinnon Securities Inc. He then started D.G. Meyer & Co. Inc in 1979, a Mortgage Backed Securities Inter-dealer Brokerage firm.
In 1998 he left Wall Street for a career in his first passion, restoring and trading antique cars.
He was a member of numerous clubs and associations including:
Friends of Ancient Road Transportation, Horseless Carriage Club, Pierce Arrow Society, Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club, Classic Car Club of America, 20 Ghost Club, Veteran Car Club of Great Britain, Rolls Royce Owners Club, Bentley Drivers Club, Silver Ghost Assoc., Snappers,
AACA, Pioneer Auto Touring, and also the Essex Hunt Club where he played ice-hockey into his 50s!
Don had so many interests, from ice hockey and sailing to his love of antique cars. However, his main focus in life was his cherished wife, children, grandchildren and life-long friends.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Meyer; his two sons, Donald G. Meyer, Jr. and his wife, Janine of Bernardsville, Richard L. Meyer of St. Petersburg, FL, his two daughters, Kathleen Meyer-Crane and her husband Richard of Clinton Twp., and Christina Korb and her husband Daniel R. Korb, Jr. of Morristown, and his 8 cherished grandchildren, Michaela Walsh, Donald G. Meyer III, Kristin Meyer, Jesse, Sean and Benjamin Crane and Julia and Nicole Korb.
A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale, NJ.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888
Private burial will be in Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, NJ.
