Obituary of Margaret Mary Cronin

Margaret Mary "Peggy" Cronin was born September 18, 1925 in Plainfield N.J. She was the daughter of the late Hannah Noonan Cronin and the late John Joseph Cronin. Prior to residing at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge, NJ, Ms. Cronin lived in Plainfield, NJ. She resided there for most of her life, except for brief periods of her childhood when she lived in Liberty Corner, NJ and Ireland. She was a graduate of the Katherine Gibbs school in Manhattan. She was employed by Lehman Brothers in Manhattan from 1944 to 2006, first in the Syndicate Department and later as Executive Assistant to Mr. Robert Lehman who was the firm's president. After Mr. Lehman died, Ms. Cronin was instrumental in the resolution of his estate and said the highlight of her life was helping to coordinate the donation of Mr. Lehman's art collection to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1974 and its housing in the Lehman wing. Through the decades, Ms. Cronin weathered the ups and downs of Wall Street and continued to work for senior management at Lehman Brothers and its various iterations, commuting from Plainfield to Manhattan, until finally retiring from the firm in 2006 at the age of 81 after 62 years of service. Ms. Cronin was an accomplished and frequent traveler for both business and pleasure and visited every continent with the exception of Australia and Antarctica. Her favorite destinations were Paris, Hawaii, Belgium, and visiting various friends in locations around the U.S. Ms. Cronin was much beloved by coworkers, friends and family throughout her life. She leaves nieces Yvonne Stecher Dillard of Tewksbury, NJ and Claudette Stecher Lopez of Montreal, Canada; their immediate and extended families; multiple cousins; and many friends from all facets of her full and wonderful life. She is pre-deceased by her brother, Daniel Cronin, and her sister, Mary Cronin. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00. Burial will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
