Obituary of Richard H Booth

Richard H. Booth, of Whitehouse Station, NJ died suddenly on January 14th of a heart attack in New York City. He was 82. Richard was born on March 24, 1933, son of the late Richard E. Booth and Verna M. Rutherford-Booth and grew up in the Green Ridge section of Scranton, PA. He was a graduate of St. Paul’s High School, Scranton, PA, class of 1952. Afterwards, he enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War and served with the 9th Infantry until honorably discharged in 1954. After leaving the US Army, he sailed on Lake Erie serving on the Bethlehem Steel iron ore freighter JJH Brown and during the winter he worked in their steel plant in Buffalo, NY. In 1955, he sailed on the iron ore ship SS Sparrow Point. In 1956, he began his undergraduate studies at the University of Scranton and graduated with high honors from Seton Hall University in 1961. He went on to earn Master Degrees in education from Newark State College and Jersey City State College. During his 53 years of service with the State of NJ he worked at the NJ Diagnostic Center, Edison, NJ, Woodbridge Adult Care facility, ran an adult education program at Rahway State Prison and was the Director at the Adult Day Care facility, Manville, NJ. After retirement he returned as a consultant at the Hunterdon Adult Day Care Center. For the past 5 years, he was Polling Place master for Whitehouse Station. His life was dedicated to helping the mentally handicapped and those in need. He was a resident of Piscataway from 1966 – 1985 and was a member of the Rivercrest Cabana Club. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed history, traveling, collected coins and was known never to pass a flea market or garage sale without stopping. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Gilda DiCindio Booth. he leaves behind a brother Donald Booth and his wife Mary, of Scranton, PA, sisters, Louise Bright and her husband Robert, of New Hope, PA, Sheila Smith and her husband William of FL., He is also survived by a son, Richard E. Booth and his wife Julie Booth of Park City, UT, formerly of Interlaken, NJ. As well as his wife’s children, Samuel Prisco and his wife Judy of Moscow, Pa, Gregg Prisco and his wife Christina of Newport Beach, CA, Scott Prisco and his wife Jeannie of Denver, CO. He leaves behind nephews, Michael Booth, Timothy Booth, Paul Booth, Maryellen Reese, Geoffrey Smith and Aimee Goldberg. He is predeceased by his brother Robert Booth. Richard’s joy were his 12 grandchildren; Claire, Chloe, Catherine, Gregg, Dominic, Christopher, Nicolas, Sarah, Sammy, Marc, Scott and Tatyana. Friends & Family may call Thursday, January 21st from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. A funeral mass will take place on Friday, January 22nd at 10:30 AM at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater, NJ. Burial with military honors will take place on Monday, January 25th at 11:30am at Washington Crossing Military Cemetery, Bucks County, PA.
