Obituary of Nicholas J Galgano
Nicholas J.Galgano, age 88 of Belvidere, NJ, died at his home, surrounded by his family on Friday, May 6, 2016.
Born in Astoria Queens, Nicholas was the son of the late Peter and Anne Galgano.
He lived in Astoria, then Fair Lawn for over 30 years and then Bedminster and Bridgewater before moving to Belvidere sixteen years ago.
He was a proud veteran of the US Navy and had served during World War II on the USS Shangri-La and the USS Currituck.
Nicholas worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1987.
He took pleasure in gardening and loved to travel. Throughout the years he visited such places as Arizona, Alaska and Italy but by far his favorite destination was Disney. He was a big Giant and Mets fan. He loved to see his grandsons play sports. In his younger years he enjoyed playing in a band and while still in high school, although he was not famous at the time, was privileged to play with Tony Bennett. Nick was one of a kind and family meant everything to him. For many years he put up a strong and brave fight against Parkinson Disease. He was adored by his family and friends and will be tremendously missed by all who knew him.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanora in 1986, his sister, Catherine Santino and his son-in-law, Nicholas Vasquez.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his son, Rick and his wife, Connie of Fairlawn; his daughters, Judy St.John and her husband, Rich of Fairlawn, Deborah DelRosario and her fiance, Fred Simoncini of Pine Plains, NY, Kathryn McSherry of Staten Island, NY and Mary McSherry of Woodbridge. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Richie and his wife, Chloe, Matthew, Brian and his wife, Lisa, Carly and her husband, John, Tyler, Jaime and her husband, Carmine, Zachary, Colleen and Lynda as well as three great grandchildren, Camilla, Colin and Logan.
A funeral liturgy will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Bernards Church, 500 Rt. 22, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.
Entombment and military honors will follow at St. Bernards Cemetery, Bridgewater.
