We knew Cliff for more than 25 years, as the close friend of our two sons. Though we saw him infrequently, we enjoyed his warmth and generous spirit, and we admired him for his devotion to the care of needy animals. He was with us more than once on New Year's Eve ... among other occasions. It brings us much sadness to know that Cliff is no longer with us. Our sincere condolences to all his family and friends.

I have supported St. Huberts. I have never met Clifford, but just from the picture and knowing what he did with his life, you can see this gentleman was truly just that, a "gentle" man. I have been in animal rescue for years, and having shelters like this truly makes a difference in the lives of animals everywhere. The people who oversee, we cannot even scratch the surface of what they offer, what they do and in Clifford's case, what he has done. God surely had a plan for this wonderful man, and while he was here, did his best to fulfill that plan. What a loving individual he must have been. My deepest sympathy for his family. A great loss, for humans and non-humans alike.

Cliff, I was so sad to hear of your passing, we knew each other in High school, the very first thought that came to my mind was how your smile just brightened the room the minute you walked in to it and filled it with happiness and it was shared by so many, Im so sorry I didnt have the chance to tell you that in person. You will truly be missed.

I met Cliff in the fall, when I decided the Whitmers didn't have enough chaos. I felt an immediate bond with Cliff, who worked closely w. me as I made arrangements to bring home Koda, a gorgeous but medically challenged husky/shepherd.
It's been a windy, sometimes rocky road, made smoother by the love and empathy Cliff showed both of us—particularly Koda. It's no wonder we both liked returning to the shelter (tho now I wish we had done so more often). Cliff made us both feel like rock stars.
I was touched by a conversation we had awhile ago about his vocation, and I remember seeing the mercy and kindness Cliff shared w shelter residents, regardless of condition/age/appearance. He was a true friend to all he encountered. And he will be dearly missed by more than we will ever know. Because I suspect Cliff touched lives he never talked about.
While I am sad that Cliff won't be along physically for Koda's continuing journey, I am confident he'll still be checking in, making sure our white hot mess is safe, and that his new hip stays in place:-)
Thank you, Cliff, for being a champion of the underdogs (and cats, et al). Thank you for living your life with purpose. And thank you for changing my life in a way I will never forget. xoxo

I am a long-time volunteer at St. Hubert's North Branch, most recently at an off-site location. I always appreciated his unabashed love for the animals and his appreciation of the volunteers. He was a genuinely warm, funny and caring person. What a loss for the shelter, especially the animals.

I first met Cliff when he helped me adopt my kitten, Sammie and then worked with him for 9.5 years as a feline friend. What a wonderful, awesome, compassionate man! I think that God needed someone who really cares to take care of all the animals in heaven. So, he called on Cliff. I send my condolences to his family and all his friends (including his animal friends.). He will be missed. Love you Cliff.

Cliff was fun, compassionate, and humane.
He was great to converse and work with.
I am sorry for your loss, Absolutely the world is diminished without his being in it, and animals in need have lost a great champion.

I started volunteering at the North Branch St Huberts 2 years ago and Cliff was wonderful to me as he was to all his volunteers, he was gruff and funny and such a nice guy. We teased each other every Tuesday. It's hard to be at the shelter now and go by his desk and realize we have lost him. The staff and volunteers are mouring him deeply but feel his presence still there with us. I take comfort in the "Rainbow Bridge" story that pets that die must wait for someone who loved them to escort them into heaven, but the animals who were never loved in life must wait in a field outside of heaven until a rescuer approaches because God lets a rescuer bring all the waiting unloved animald into heaven with him. Godspeed dear Cliff.

I was so sad and shocked to hear of Cliff's passing. While I did not have the opportunity to work with him directly at St. Hubert's, I had only heard such wonderful things about him and his deep passion to help animals (which he was able to accomplish so successfully throughout his time at St. Hubert's). He will be missed. Please accept my condolences and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.
