Obituary of Howard J. Reynolds

Howard J. Reynolds of Basking Ridge section of Bernard’s Township, passed away suddenly on September 1, 2016 at Morristown Hospital, N.J. at the age of 82 years. He was born in 1934 in Jersey City to Kathryn and Stanley Romanski. While residing in Linden, N.J. and graduated from Newark Academy in Newark N. J. and Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, P.A. where he earned in B.S. in Business. He interrupted his studies at NYU Law School to join the U.S. Army and serve time in Stuttgart, Germany where his unit was deployed to go to Lebanon for a military crisis but orders were cancelled. In 1962, he married Dorothy Cecilia Stybel of Plainfield, N.J. and resided there for three years before moving to Basking Ridge, N.J. in 1965. He opened a Realty office in Far Hills center and later moved that office to Basking Ridge, on South Finley Avenue to become owner/broker of Howard J. Reynolds, Gallery of Homes and continued to be a member of Somerset/Hunterdon/Morris county Board of Realtors. He was a former Regional Director and President of the Northern N.J Gallery of Homes Council, as well as President of the Somerset Board of Realtors, February, 1991. Howard was also a certified real estate instructor and taught state approved courses in real estate and brokerage licensing at RVCC and WHRHS adult school. He also earned a Graduate Realtor Institute Designation. In retirement Howard worked part time with Sotheby’s International Realty Office in Basking Ridge. Howard played football in high school and college and was a devoted football fan. Later in life, one would find him in the stands cheering for his two sons at Pop Warner, RHS and college games. He also had a love for the theatre as he participated in the Community Music Theatre in the 60’s and 70’s with the leading roles. The Sound of Music, Guys and Dolls, The Merry Widow, The King and I, etc. Howard J. Reynolds was a beloved husband of Dorothy C. Reynolds for 54 years, a devoted father to his sons John and Conrad Reynolds of Basking Ridge and daughter Julianne Reynolds of Los Angeles, California. He was brother in law to Christine Stybel of Basking Ridge, Howard’s older brother, Joseph Reynolds was predeceased. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 22 , 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. James Roman Catholic Church Chapel, 184 S. Finely Avenue, Basking Ridge, N.J. 07920. Howard was a communicant of St. James Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus from 1965 thru 2016. He participated in St James Bible study programs and attended weekly masses at The Shrine of St Josephs in Stirling NJ.
