Obituary of Herbert D. Vollers
October 20, 2016 Somerset County lost one of it’s most valued citizens. Herbert Diedrich Vollers, born September 4, 1928 in Secaucus NJ, spending his childhood in Readington and later residing in Branchburg Township has peacefully left this earth surrounded by loving family at 2:15 AM October 20, 2016. Raised on a farm Herb had taken a new path in the construction industry after WWII with his wife Nancy and founded Vollers Excavating in 1949. Herb was an entrepreneur, and a philanthropist who always lent his time to others in need, a man who understood and respected the integrity of a handshake and who helped to pave the way for future generations.
The following are the many accomplishments of Herb, •Private Pilot •Avid hunter & NRA life member •World Traveler •Civil Defense Director & Police Chief of Branchburg Township 1950 – 1960 •NJ State Commission on Aging appointed by Governor Kean 1988 •Commissioner of the Branchburg Industrial Commission •President of the Somerset County Mosquito Commission •Director of the Somerset County Coalition on Affordable Housing •Director of the Somerset County Chamber of Commerce •Trustee/Chairman of Building & Grounds Somerset Medical Center •Commissioner of the Somerset/Raritan Valley Sewerage Authority •Past VP & Life/Charter Member of the Branchburg Rescue Squad •Member of the Branchburg Township Senior Citizens •President of the Branchburg Industrial Group •State Bank of Raritan Valley Board of Directors •Somerset Trust Company Board of Directors •Past Municipal Chairman of the Branchburg Township Republican Committee •Board Member of Midland School •Communicant Member of the North Branch Reformed Church •Past Chief & Life Member of the North Branch Volunteer Fire Company •Past President/Member of the Somerville/Raritan Exchange Club •Trenton Consistory 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. •Master Mason (F&AM) with the Congdon Overlook Lodge #163 in Bernardsville. •Member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon Hunterdon County #13.•Member of the Crescent Temple (Shriners).
Herb leaves behind Nancy Vollers, his loving wife of 63 years. Four loving children and their spouses, Steve & Cindy Vollers, Tom & Linda Vollers, Rob & Deb Vollers and Kathy & Marty Herrman. Seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 1:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the North Branch Reformed Church.
Burial will be in the North Branch Cemetery.
The Vollers family is inviting everyone to the Ryland Inn for an open house luncheon from 11:30 – 3 PM immediately following the funeral service to celebrate the life of Herb Vollers.
Contributions can be made to the North Branch Reformed Church, North Branch Volunteer Fire Department and the Branchburg Rescue Squad.
