I admired pat's directness and lovely smile whenever we met out at the mailboxes in union gap. Over the years I know she took in many a stray cat and cared for them silently. Rest in peace.

Grandma,
I've always loved my middle name, Allman-Lee, but today, it has deeper, more sentimental meaning. It is a way for me to honor you and remember your legacy. I will cherish it forever.
Thank you for your encouragement, your advice and always being supportive. You will forever be missed and loved.

My father, my Uncle Chris, and my Aunt Ann were raised by a great woman. My grandmother was kind, caring, and tremendously talented. There is a lot more I could say, but I wanted to share one particular memory of mine. I had a friend who passed away in 2005 and my grandmother sent me an extremely heartfelt card. I was in an unusual emotional place, but that simple card lifted my spirit in so many ways she probably couldn't have imagined. I have that card to this day and I will never forget my wonderful grandmother, Patricia E. Buchan.

Mum, below was your favorite poem, "The Soldier" by Rupert Brooke:
If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is forever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam;
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.
Much Love from Paul and family, Woodbridge, VA.

Mum,
This week I keep thinking of the story you told me about when you were a young 11 year old girl during WWII, specifically during the Blitz. You were taking your parents shoes to the shoe shop within the train station to have them repaired. You heard the buzz bomb coming but didn’t realize it had hit the station directly until the ground underneath you gave way. A police man, that avoided the explosion and collapse, saw you go under the rubble and pulled you out.
Amazingly, you had minimal wounds, mostly shrapnel to your head. You were very upset, but not over the fact that you almost lost your life or that you were hurt, but because you had lost your parents shoes and were worried if others were hurt. The police man told you not to worry about the shoes, that everyone was alright and took you home and told your parents what had happened.
The story encompasses everything that was so wonderful about you. Your complete and utter selflessness, your bravery, your want to help others, your amazing history and most of all your outrageous wit, in that you ended the story with a smile by saying…”To this day, I still think my parents were pissed about the shoes”.
Keep Calm and Carry On. I know you lived by those words and I am trying to do that now. But loosing you, is without a doubt, is the most heartbreaking thing I have ever faced.
I know if you were here, you would say “Now, now darling, let’s have a cup of tea, talk it out and you’ll see, it will all be ok”. I’ll have that cup of tea now and I’ll know you will be near.
Thank you for being such a wonderful and amazing Mum.
I miss you so. I love you, your daughter

"Mum Buchan" was not an average person that is ever forgotten. A woman of great distinction in all that she did. I will always remember and admire her for her great strength and ability to design a life of warmth and kindness. She was humble and gifted and always concerned for her family and others.
She will be missed but also carried in the steps of her daughter and son everyday. My prayers and love for Mum and the Buchan family.
