I was also extremely sad to hear the bad news. Dorothy was a guide to me, she was a free woman but also a very clever and gentle person full of humour and wit.
Thanks to her, the exchange programme with Jules Ferry in Paris was always a success. As a close ally, she always had the right word, the right idea to help us out with sometimes intricate situations. She was always willing to go ahead and do things for us privately, like driving us to « Falling Water », the Frank Lloyd Wright’s house he built on a stream, which was for me a wonderful experience.
The peaceful time we spent at her place was always extremely interesting. We had wonderful discussions together, and I also adored her collection of Indian potery. She had such a good taste! We exchanged apartment and she lent me her house and her car when my children were young. They loved her place very much and we had a wonderful time visiting the east coast with them. I tried to get in touch recently with her but with no success. I was in New York and would have loved to meet her again. All my best to you and your wonderful family.

I am very sad to have learned that Dorothy has passed away. I remember how much I enjoyed working with her at the exchange program we initiated between Lycée Jules Ferry in Paris and Watchung hills which lasted many years and which she went on chaperoning much after retiring. From professional, our relationship turned quickly to friendship due to her open-mindedness, her simplicity, her stimulating and self-possessed personality, and her sens of humour. She was opened to different cultures, asian as well as european and native american, had a deep knowledge of french culture. Each stay at her place was a great opportunity to exchange our views on what took place in France, in the US and in the world in general. I also loved her adventurous mind. When she retired she decided she would accept all kind of offers that were made to her. And that's how, on visiting us in Ardèche, France, she accepted to go along with us, my husband and I, who were much younger than she, on a hiking trip in the nearby mountains. On the way, though it was difficult, she didn't give up. I kept that in mind and decided to take the same resolution when I retired !
These last years as she became weaker, we couldn't get in touch any longer, but I kept thinking of her and missed her relationship.
My deepest sympathies to all her family.
