Obituary of Kathleen E McGourty

Kathleen McGourty, 67, passed away on November 11, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 24, 1949, in Whitehouse, NJ, to Edward and Marion Marie Engisch, and was a lifelong resident of Hunterdon County. She is survived by her father, Edward Engisch of Kingwood, NJ, her beloved husband of 44 years, John F. McGourty, Jr. of Clinton Township; daughter Amy and son-in-law Laurence Dallaire of Manassas, Va.; daughter Carrie and son-in-law David Totaro of Flemington, daughter Lori and son-in-law Michael Kane of Union Township; son John and daughter-in-law Elizabeth McGourty of Pittstown, and daughter Bonnie and son-in-law Nicholas Agaccio of Holland Township. She is also survived by her brother, William Engisch and his wife, Barbara of Frenchtown, NJ. Kathy was the proud and devoted grandmother “Ninny” to 15 adventuresome grandchildren. She was predeceased by her mother. Kathy graduated from Mount St. John Academy High School in Peapack, NJ, and earned a degree in Social Work from Keuka College in Keuka Park, NY. She served as a parole officer before beginning her lifetime career as a social worker for the state of New Jersey at the Hunterdon Developmental Center in Clinton, NJ, from which she retired in July 2014. She was active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale, NJ, the American Red Cross and the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. Kathy dedicated her life to service – to her profession, her community, and to her family and friends. Those who knew her were blessed to be enveloped in the faith, love and charity that characterized her life and way of living. While she is no longer with us on this earth, her spirit, teachings and traditions will live on through her husband, children, grandchildren and loved ones. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, November 15 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Wednesday, November 16 at 10:00 AM. Entombment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
