Obituary of Mary Janet Lyness

Mary Janet Lyness, age 87 of Pittstown, NJ, died at her home on Monday, November 28, 2016. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John and Veronica Graceley. Mary Janet grew up in Plainfield, NJ and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1947. She attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She had lived in Martinsville before moving to Hunterdon County in 1985. Mary was a member of the Historical Society in Alexandria Twp. and the Art Center in Clinton. She was an avid reader and enjoyed politics and reading editorials as well as writing letters to the editor. She was a superb cook and master pie maker. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be tremendously missed by all. Along with her parents, Mary was predeceased by her baby daughter, Elizabeth in 1956 and by her sister, June Diglilo in 1994. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Thomas, her son, Thomas Jr. and his wife, Lorraine of Mountain Lakes, her son, Jerry and his wife Nancy of Whitehouse Station, her daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Bob Laurent of Martinsville and her son, John and his wife, Carrie of Manahawkin. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A funeral liturgy will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2 Whitebridge Road, Pittstown. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Annandale. In lieu of flowers donations are requested to a charity of your choice.
