Obituary of Phyllis Iverson Oberg

Phyllis Iverson Oberg, age 85 of Tewksbury Township, died Monday, August 5, 2013. Born in Altoona, PA on October 24, 1927 she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mildred Engdahl Iverson. Phyllis graduated from Upsala College in 1949 where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She had been a school teacher in West Milford and Bloomfield, NJ. Phyllis had been a volunteer at the Clara Maass Medical Center and was a past president of the North Caldwell Garden Club. Having lived in Bloomfield, Glen Ridge and the Caldwells, she and her husband retired and moved to Tewksbury Township in 1986. She was a member of the Tewksbury Women's Club and the Tewksbury Historical Society and was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Oldwick. Phyllis also enjoyed spending time in her Englewood Florida home during the winter months. Phyllis was predeceased by her daughter, Karin Simpson in 2000 and her husband, Albin in 2001. She is survived by her son, Carl Oberg and his wife, Colleen of Hartwell, GA, her son-in-law, Dr. Alec Simpson and two grandchildren, Joel Simpson and Tara Oberg. She is also survived by her two sisters, Betty Furst of Chambersburg, PA and Shirley Litzinger and her husband, Richard of Pensacola, FL as well as 12 nephews and nieces. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, August 8, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ. A service will be held on Friday, August 9 at 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church, 35 Old Turnpike Road, Oldwick. Burial will be prior to the service at 10:30 AM in New Germantown Cemetery in Oldwick. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, Mission 300, PO Box 41, Oldwick, NJ 08858.
