Obituary of Carl W Sundin

Carl W. Sundin, Jr. (Bill), age 89, of Hackettstown, NJ passed away on October 7, 2019 after a brief illness.

 

Bill was born in Philadelphia, PA to Carl and Frances (Trites) Sundin.  He received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and then served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Japan where he met the love of his life, Motoko.  Bill and Motoko settled first in Philadelphia and later in Mount Laurel, NJ where they lived for 36 years and raised two children.  Bill worked for Mobil Oil for 27 years as an engineer at their refinery in Paulsboro, NJ. After retirement, Bill and Motoko moved to Whitehouse Station, where they actively enjoyed living in the Four Seasons community.

 

Bill was a lover of classical music from a young age, loved learning new things, and had a special interest in WWII airplanes.  He enjoyed traveling, with recent trips to Switzerland and Japan, and also took several trips to the Bahamas with his grandchildren.  Quiet, kind and content; Bill was devoted to his wife, Motoko, and enjoyed being with family and friends. He was affectionately referred to as Pop by his family and was always ready with a quick-witted reply. Bill enjoyed a variety of comedy shows over the years and ended each day with a glass of red wine. 

 

Bill was predeceased by his father, Carl and his mother, Frances.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Motoko; his children Amy and her husband Vincent of Chester, George and his wife Janette of Williamston, MI and his six grandchildren.

 

A memorial celebration of Bill Sundin’s life will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at 1:30 PM  at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888.  The family will be greeting friends begining at 1:00 PM.  Interment will be private.

 

Donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Brain Foundation.
