Obituary of Charles H. Engler

 

Charles Henry "Charlie" Engler III died peacefully in Bridgewater, N.J. on February 6, at the age of 91.

Charlie is survived by his children; Barbara Lynn (Lynn) Kinkel & her husband Peter and Charles (Chad) Engler & his wife Loretta, Grandchildren Lauren Emily Hamlin and Jonathan Peter Kinkel, his brother Richard Penn (Dick) Engler. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Parnell Engler.
 
Charlie was born on April 25th, 1928 in South Orange, N.J. to Charles Henry Engler, Jr. and Janice Eagles Engler. He graduated from Lehigh University  in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Masters of Science. He married Barbara in 1953, whom he met while he was in the U.S. Army stationed in Atlanta, Georgia. After moving to South Orange, N.J. Charlie began working for Engler Instrument Company as Vice President of Operations.
 
Charlie was an avid and accomplished sailor and often enjoyed sailboat racing at his home venue of Hunterdon Sailing Club as well as traveling to various regattas around the country. He volunteered his time and expertise on the Planning Board of New Providence, N.J. and also organized holiday parades for the town. Charlie volunteered at The Occupational Center, an occupational training center for handicapped people where he arranged contracts so the group could sell its efforts to municipalities.
 
A small, immediate-family service is anticipated in the near future.
