Eugenie Patricia Scarito

January 1, 1926 – April 24, 2020

Eugenie Patricia Scarito, 94, passed away on April 24, 2020, at the BrightView Assisted Living facility in Warren, NJ. 

Eugenie was born on January 1, 1926, in Bayonne, NJ, to Sorrow Scarito and Mary (Lipoma) Scarito.  Known as “F.L.A.G.” (Fun Loving Aunt Gene) to her nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews, “Aunt Gene” never married.  A devout Catholic, she once “gave up” a boyfriend for Lent. 

She was the sister of the late Salvatore “Ted” Scarito, Joseph Scarito, Rose Zito, Agatha Damico and Veronica Bower.

Aunt Gene was a graduate of Bayonne High School and worked for years as an executive assistant at J. Walter Thompson Advertising Agency in Manhattan.  She was loyal to the brands she worked on, and chided family members who bought competing products.

She lived in Bayonne until her retirement, caring for her parents while they were alive, and then helping care for other family members. She later moved to Manasquan, Tinton Falls and eventually into assisted living in Warren, where she was a Charter Member of BrightView.

She loved playing cards and Rummikub, and was known as the “Rummikub Champion” at BrightView.  Above all, she loved her nieces and nephews and their children, calling them all “Doll Face” and leaving bright red lipstick marks on their cheeks and foreheads.  Each swore they were her favorite.

A private burial will take place this week.  A celebration of her life will be scheduled for the summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Aunt Gene’s local parish church, Our Lady of the Mount (https://ourladyofthemount.org/)in Warren, NJ, where Father Sean ministered to Aunt Gene and all the residents of Brightview with care, or St. Francis Breadline in Manhattan (https://stfrancisbreadline.org/).

Thank you to the staff at BrightView, who lovingly cared for Aunt Gene in her final days, months and years.
