Obituary of Assunta Bianco

Assunta Bianco, age 83, of Whitehouse Station, NJ, passed away in peace at her home on Thursday, November 12, 2020, with her family and aide Anna Urmishvili, who lovingly supported Assunta, by her side.

Born in province of Cosenza, in the town of Cetraro, Italy she was the daughter of the late Fedele and Maria Antonuccio.

Assunta came to the United States at the age of 26 and lived in Elizabeth and Roselle Park before moving to Whitehouse Station in 2000.

She worked as a seamstress after she arrived in the United States, having started learning the trade in Italy in her early teens under the tutelage of expert Italian seamstresses of their era.  She left work starting with the birth of her children and became a dedicated mom and house wife.  She went back to work as a cook at the Roselle Park High School in the 1980’s, often times sneaking special meals to her children in the food line at lunch time. 

Assunta was a devout Catholic, enjoyed gardening, cooking fine food in the form of Italian family style meals and desserts, making homemade sauce, dancing, traveling and spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.   In her later years she devoted herself to helping raise her grandchildren and continuing to be her husband Attilio’s life partner.

She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Guiseppina, her husband Attilio, parents Fedele and Maria Antonuccio and her great-grandson DJ.

She is survived by her daughter, Aurora Gilliam and her husband, David of Whitehouse Station; by her son, Paul and his wife, Jennifer of Westchester County, NY;  by her three grandchildren, Jessica and John Gilliam and Lillie Bianco and by her sister Conchetta Verta of Whitehouse Station, NJ.

A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 9:30 AM  at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, November 15, 2020 from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888.

Burial will be in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
