Obituary of Gerald T D'Alessandro

 

Gerald T D'Alessandro, age 89 and lifelong resident of New Jersey, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 in Peoria, AZ.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Alfonso and Immaculata (Miele) D'Alessandro.

Gerald attended Newark College of Engineering and worked as an Electrical Technician at the Picatinny Arsenal for 25 years before retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, enjoyed the outdoors, taking long walks, jogging, and attending family get togethers, especially those involving Italian food.  He was the number one fan at his granddaughter’s soccer and basketball games.

In his younger years, Gerald was a talented baseball player and had hopes of playing shortstop at the major league level. He tried out for the New York Yankees but unfortunately did not make it through the final cut.  In the years following, he devoted himself to his loving wife, Sally, and their four children.

Gerald was married to the love of his life, Sally, for 41 years before she sadly passed in 1995.   

He is survived by his son, Jerry  D’Alessandro and his wife, Cheryl of Arvada,Colorado; his son Gary D’Alessandro and his domestic partner, Peter Scott of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey; his daughter, Cindy Hoel of Glendale, Arizona; his daughter, Donna D’Alessandro and her wife, Kathy Scheffels of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey; and his beloved granddaughter, Maggie.

A private committal service will be held at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, 225 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover, NJ 07936.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations be made through In Memory Of at www.inmemof.org/gerald-t-Dalessandro to benefit Covid relief.
