Obituary of Joan E Zylstra

Joan E. (Bush) Zylstra, 88, a lifelong resident of Whitehouse Station, NJ, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, NJ.

Born on September 23, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Frank P. Bush, former mayor of Readington Township, and Elizabeth (Bertrand) Bush.

Joan was a devoted wife and mother, marrying Robert Zylstra in May of 1953.  Together, they raised a family and later owned and operated the Marroe Inn in Lawrenceville, NJ.  Joan also worked for the Federal Postal Supply Depot from which after many years of dedicated service, she retired.  

She was a proud member of the the Daughters of the American Revolution, Old Whitehouse Chapter.  Joan found friendship and peace as a member of the Readington Reformed Church where she enjoyed attending bible study class.  She was a good and faithful servent and will be tremendously missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.

Joan was predeceased by her daughter, Janet Eick of Howard, PA; her sister, Gloria Ambrose of Whitehouse Station, and her brother, Harold P. Bush of Ringoes, NJ.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, she is survived by her son, Robert L. Zylstra of  Union Township; her daughter, Linda Seymour of Jutland; her two grandchildren, Stephanie (Seymour) Burgess of Holland Township and Kevin Seymour of Pennington, NJ as well as one great-granddaughter, Olivia Burgess.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 2:30 PM at the Rural Hill Cemetery on Old Highway 28 in Whitehouse, NJ.

Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888.
