Uncle Travis was more than a person. He was a feeling, an atmosphere, an aura. At the mention of his name, memories fill my head. My skin feels warm, as if he just gave me a world-famous hug. I feel almost childlike, remembering what a wonderful parent figure he was. I remember the hunt for honeysuckles in his backyard, which wasn’t much of a “hunt.” Shelby, Emma, and I would be running around, doing god knows what. And at the end of our adventures, we were always welcomed back to a, “What were youts three doin, huh?” in his comforting voice. In the winter, when the snow cascaded over everything like a soggy white blanket, we would always find a way to make the trip to Uncle Travis’ for Christmas Eve. He was always so lively. We would all stand around the radio and listen to where Santa was. And when we would use his computer to track Santa, all hope was lost. The poor man knew nothing of technology. But we helped him, we always helped him, just like he always helped us. Though he is so dearly missed, we will always have some of him with us. In our memories, our pictures, and our hearts. We love you, Uncle Travis. We will always love you. My heart goes out to the rest of my family, and I hope everyone stays healthy and safe.
