Obituary of Henrietta J Flagg

Henrietta “Penny” J. Flagg, age 82 of Bridgewater, NJ, peacefully passed on Friday, March 12, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. 

Born in Avoca, PA, Penny later moved to Maplewood, NJ, where she raised her family. When her daughters were teenagers, she returned to the workforce and was employed as a secretary for many years at Deacon Press in West Orange. She then lived in Clark, NJ, for 25 years, before moving to Bridgewater in 2014.

A lifelong practicing Catholic, in recent years, she attended mass at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church in Bridgewater, where her daughter and her family are parishioners. It brought her joy to see her grandson, Gabriel, confirmed there. 

In her younger years she loved tending a garden and reaping the rewards of beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables. She enjoyed coloring, crocheting, and listening to music, especially classical. Penny had a patriotic love for America, as well as for the traditions of her ancestral country of Poland. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren; many hours were spent together playing chess, teaching them to read, and going for walks.

She was predeceased by her brother Robert, as well as her beloved husband Clifford in 2009.

Penny is survived by her two daughters, Lorraine Woolever and her husband, John, of Whitehouse, and Karen Pyra and her husband, Christopher, of Bridgewater; her sister, Patricia Festino of FL; and her three cherished grandchildren, Julia, Douglas, and Gabriel.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, March 17^th, from 6 to 8 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ, 08888.

A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, March 18th, at 10 AM at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church in Bridgewater. Burial will follow immediately at Rural Hill Cemetery in Whitehouse.
