Joachim Baresel

Obituary of Joachim H Baresel

Joachim H. Baresel, age 88 of Whitehouse Station, NJ, died Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Bridgeway Care Center in Bridgewater, NJ.

Born on February 1, 1933 in Germany, he was the son of the late Wilhelm and Margarete Baresel.

Joachim immigrated with his family to the United States in 1963 and lived in Clifton, NJ before moving to Whitehouse Station 20 years ago.

He worked as a mechanic and foreman for Mayer Textile Machine Corporation in Clifton for 35 years, where he also welded beautiful wrought-iron creations as a pastime. Joachim was a hard worker and took great pride in everything he did--he was known for keeping his cars shiny and spotless, right down to the engine. He passed this advice on to his daughter and grandchildren: “If you’re going to do something, do it right.”

Known to his family as “Baba,” he enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, especially at Round Valley Reservoir and Hacklebarney State Park. He shared this passion with his wife and granddaughters, often taking them hiking and fishing. Joachim loved to travel and was fortunate to have taken many trips throughout the United States and Europe during his lifetime.

He was a gentle soul, an easy spirit who never complained about anything--except the humidity. One of his greatest joys was to crack a joke and make people smile and laugh. He was a very kind and caring man who would not hesitate to help anyone who needed it. His family has asked that in lieu of donations to a particular organization; in memory of Joachim, you perform an act of kindness for someone in need.

Joachim is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Marliese; his loving daughter, Jutta Glauber and her husband, Robert, of Whitehouse Station; his cherished grandchildren, Andrea and Emily Glauber; and his younger sister, Baerbel Formica.

Funeral arrangements are private and have been entrusted to the Kearns Funeral Home in Whitehouse.
