Obituary of Florence Fitzgerald

Florence Fitzgerald, 94 of Clinton, NJ passed away peacefully on May 19, 2022.

Florence was born in Teaneck, NJ to Louise and Theodore Zimmerer. She graduated with honors from North Plainfield High School in 1946 and worked as an executive secretary.  While an active member of the Plainfield Ski Club, she met her husband Bill Fitzgerald and they were married in 1955.  Five children and a successful business followed.

Florence was a lively and optimistic lady, always willing to help out if needed.  She participated in many clubs and societies where she was eager to share her faith and energy with all. She volunteered for 40 plus years at the Hunterdon Medical Center, where she was honored with the 2004 Westcott Award for outstanding service, as well as being a decades long member of the Flemington Womens Club, Hunterdon Soroptimist’s, Red Mill, Girl Scouts, and Immaculate Conception Rosary Society.

Florence loved to travel and is on her most epic journey now. Her adventures took her to all 7 continents where she experienced amazing sights and cultures.  She passed this love of travel and adventure on to her children and grandchildren who have vicariously kept her experiencing new people and places even in her twilight years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Fitzgerald, her son Jimmy and her granddaughter Bridget. Surviving are her children, Jayne (Michael) Cerone of Clifton, NJ, W. Thomas (Carol) of Warren, NJ, Paul (Joanne) of Fayston, VT, Katie (John) Green of West Palm Beach, FL. As well as her loving grandchildren Allison (Alex) Holdsworth, Samantha Cerone, Greg Fitzgerald, Cory Fitzgerald, Kaitlin Fitzgerald, Kelley Green and Glynis Green.

Visitation will be held at theKearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway, Whitehouse, on Friday June 3, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.

Catholic mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale on Saturday, June 4 at 10:00 AM.  

Florence will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge, next to her husband and son, immediately following mass.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends who have loved and laughed with Florence through the years, as well as Mimi of Better Together HomeCare and the nursing staff at Rolling Hills Care Center for their devoted care.
