Obituary of Carmela Mauro

Carmela Mauro passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Bridgeway Senior Care in Hillsborough, New Jersey. She was 105 years old. 

Born in Richmond Hill, Queens, New York, she was the daughter of the late her Mary and Anthony Marasco who were from Italy.

Carmela was a seamstress in Elizabeth, NJ.  Sewing was one of her favorite hobbies, and she enjoyed making clothing for her children and grandchildren.  She married Philip Mauro from Italy.  Together, they owned and operated a dry cleaning and tailoring business in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Carmela had a deep passion for cooking, and throughout her life, she took joy in entertaining her family and friends.  Most importantly, Carmela was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and words are not enough to describe the way she loved her family. “Nan” was full of zeal and wisdom, and she will be truly missed.

Along with her parents, Carmela was predeceased by her husband, Philip Mauro; her daughter, Dorothy Mauro; and her siblings Jack, Rose, Anna, and Michelina.

Surviving are her daughter, Frances MacIver and her husband, John; granddaughters, Jennifer Higdon and her husband, Ken, Megan Rudolph and her husband, Scott; and great grandchildren, Ryan and Sofia, whom she loved dearly. Additionally, she loved the family pets Scarlet, Auggie, and Leia.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse,  New Jersey 08888.
