Obituary of Charles W Preston

Charles W. Preston, age 85 of Tewksbury Township, died Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown.

Born in Rahway, NJ he was the son of the late Charles M. and Dorothy Preston.

During his younger years, Chuck was raised in Cranford.  He played many sports at Cranford High School with Basketball being his favorite.  He played on the 1956 Group III State Basketball Championship team.  His college basketball was played at Delta State University where he won the best rebounder and most valuable player awards his senior year.

Chuck began his coaching and teaching career in Savannah, GA, then Atlanta, GA and in 1968 moved onto Bernards High School in Bernardsville, NJ.  There he coached many sports which included both boys and girls.  In 2016 he was elected to Bernards High School Athletic Hall of Fame.  Chuck retired in 2000.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Irene; his four children, Christopher Preston, Kathleen Russo, Jennifer MacPherson and Jill Murphy as well as 5 grandchildren.  He also leaves behind his four siblings, Dorothy Keith, Judy Schiller, Kathy Melchionno and Robert Preston.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888.  A time to share memories will begin at 7:00 PM.
