Obituary of Margaret A Mahoney

Margaret (Peggy) Mahoney, 89, of Flemington, NJ died Tuesday evening October 31, 2023 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, NJ.

Born in Kingston, PA, she was the daughter of Frederick and Mildred Malkemes. Peggy was raised in Shavertown, PA along with her brother Fred. She attended Westmoreland High School, now Dallas High School. As a young adult she moved to Manhattan, where she worked for The NY Telephone Company. It was there that she met the love of her life Walter Mahoney.

Peggy and Walter married in 1963 and moved to Syosset, NY where they raised their children Ronald, and Karen. Peggy was a devoted wife and mother. She was an active PTA member volunteering at numerous events, and a 4-H leader. She loved attending her children’s games and concerts, planning family outings, vacations, and holiday gatherings.

Peggy returned to work at The New York Telephone Company and worked over 20 years before retiring with Walter to Palm City, FL. Peggy was an active member of The Meadows community in Palm City, serving on many committees. In 2022, Peggy moved to Independence Manor in Flemington, NJ to be closer to family.

Peggy adored her grandchildren cheering them on at their games, plays, and other activities. She loved spending time with family and friends and truly enjoyed people. She was warm, cheerful, fun, enthusiastic, kind, and she will be missed by family and friends who held her dear.

Peggy is predeceased by her husband Walter Mahoney, and her step-son Brian Mahoney. She is survived by her son Ronald Mahoney and his wife Beth, and her daughter Karen and her husband Christopher Murphy. She is also survived by seven grandchildren Kristin, Sarah, Matthew, Katherine, William, Ryan, and Daniel.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit in Lebanon, NJ on Saturday, November 11^th @ 11:30 AM.  The service will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.
