Obituary of Elaine S Cronin

Elaine L. Cronin, age 80 of Whitehouse Station, NJ died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

Born in Pawtucket, RI she was the daughter of the late William and Doris Strickland.

Elaine resided in Whitehouse Station for the past 45 years.

She received her Bachelors Degree in Mathematics from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA and worked as an Assistant to the Dean at Raritan Valley Community College for many years.

She was a member of the Whitehouse United Methodist Church and the Hunterdon Sailing Club.

Elaine's love for the environment was evidenced in her purposeful and consistent planting of trees on their property.  She had a lifelong passion for sailing and she cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren on Long Beach Island where she endeavored to pass along that love.  Elaine's interests went beyond the bounds of the earth as she also had a curiosity for astronomy and once built her own telescope for star gazing.  She had an unwavering commitment to serving others and was always the nicest person in the room.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, William; her son, Daniel and his wife, Christine of Essex Fells, NJ; her two daughters, Jean Nehring and her husband, Kenneth of Vienna, VA and Kathleen Cronin of San Francisco, CA; her two brothers, Kern Strickland and his wife, Sharon of Milburn, NJ and Paul Strickland and his wife, Stacey of Baltimore, MD; and by her four grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Cronin and Jack and Emma Nehring.

A service will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at 5:00 pmat the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 2:00 to 5:00pm.
