Obituary of Albert Barker

Albert Barker, age 70 of Whitehouse Station, NJ, died Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington.

Born in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late George and Hazel Barker.  Albert lived in Long Valley before moving to Whitehouse Station.

He was a member and Deacon of the Rockaway Reformed Church in Whitehouse Station.

A talented Chef, Albert had a passion for the culinary arts, and he dedicated himself to spreading joy through his food.  His culinary expertise was able to be experienced in several local restaurants including: Oldwick General Store, Towne Restaurant in Clinton, Le Petit Chateau in Bernardsville, and La Casa Bianca in Whitehouse Station.

Beyond the kitchen, he found peace and enjoyment in various pastimes.  His love for fishing was unparalleled, seeking the tranquility of the water and stillness of the shorelines, a testament to his appreciation for life’s simple moments.  He found enjoyment in the magic of movies, refuge in the pages of books and liked the mental challenge crossword puzzles offered.  Albert was a people person. He really loved talking and being with people. He loved attending events, dinners, and bible studies. He loved connecting with old friends on facebook. He was very outgoing and open hearted, and laughed easily.

He is survived by his brother, Ken Barker and his wife, Marian; his two nieces, Lisa Cutalo and Michelle Shea and her husband, James as well as his pastor and friend, Dave Ruisard who had a major influence in his life for the last 12 years. The amount of friendship and brotherhood that they shared had a large impact on the quality of Albert’s life.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Rockaway Reformed Church.  Please check back for an update.
