Obituary of Claire A Shamey

Claire A. Shamey, 97, of Basking Ridge, NJ, died peacefully surrounded by her family on January 19, 2024.   

 Born in New York City, Claire was the daughter of the late James and Catherine Cox.  

She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, James Shamey.  

Claire and James lived for many years and raised their family in Cranford, N.J. before moving to Whitehouse Station, NJ and later Lebanon, NJ, where they resided until James’ passing in 2017.  Claire resided for the last nearly seven years in Basking Ridge, NJ. 

She was a mother, homemaker, and caregiver, and in her later years, an avid traveler and student of foreign languages and cultures. 

Claire was also predeceased by her sisters, Helen Vislocky and Marie Clark and her brother, Gerard Cox.  and survived by sisters Catherine Resko, Bernadette Korchak, and Margaret Pandolfi. 

Claire is survived by her five children, Caryn Shamey of Sugar Hill, NH, Joanne Shamey of Newport, OR, Joseph Shamey and his wife Linda of Seal Rock, OR, Gerard Shamey and his wife Jane of Basking Ridge, NJ, and Lauren Katz and her husband Jerome Katz of Point Pleasant, NJ, as well as by her three grandchildren, Zachary Johnk, Rachel (Shamey) Montgomery and Samuel Johnk and great-granddaughter Callie Johnk.  She is also survived by her three sisters, Catherine Resko, Bernadette Korchak, and Margaret Pandolfi.

Visitation will be at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ on Thursday January 25, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., followed by a funeral mass on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at 

St. James Church, 184 South Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ and interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge, NJ.
