Obituary of Joey J. Lelah

Joey J. Lelah, age 84 of Palm Coast, FL, died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at his home. Born in Singapore he was the son of the late Albert and Florence Lelah. He lived on Long Island, NY before moving to Florida in 1980. Joey was a junior high Social Studies Chairman and teacher at Jonas Salk Jr. High School in Levittown, NY. He received two masters' degrees, one from Columbia University in NY and one from Calcutta University in Bombay, India. Mr. Lelah was a member of the Palm Coast Yacht Club and the Ballroom Dancers Association of Florida. Joey was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Kathleen Lelah and four siblings, Katie Schweitzer, Maurice Lelah, David Lelah, and Esther Grossman. He is survived by his son, Larry and his wife, Susan Lelah of Whitehouse Station, his daughter, Jennifer and her companion, Steven Koehler of Branchburg. Mr. Lelah is also survived by three sisters, Sylvia Kintish, Terry Shamie, Rene Elsen and a brother, Harry Lelah. He was the grandfather of Christopher, Julie, Lydia, Emily, Samantha, Hannah and the great-grandfather of Raphael and Frida. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Burial will be in the North Branch Reformed Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
