Obituary of Ernesto Renda

Ernest Renda, age 86 of Whitehouse, NJ., died Monday, February 20, 2006 at his home. Born in Mottofallone,Italy on August 3, 1919, he was the son of the late Michele and the late Carmela (Sirimarca) Renda. He emigrated to the United States in 1938 settling in Green Brook. He lived in Green Brook for 32 years before moving to Whitehouse in 1970. Mr. Renda was a US Army veteran of World War II having served from 1941 to 1945 and was stationed at Fort Shafter, near Honolulu, on the morning of the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. In 1991, he was presented the Pearl Harbor Survivors Congressional Commemorative Medal by then Governor James Florio. Honolulu, on the moringH H Mr. Renda owned and operated Ernest Renda Contracting Company, Inc., first established in Green Brook in 1947, and then moving to Whitehouse in 1964, before retiring in 1993. during his career, he established himself as a leader in his field. Mr. Rendas company installed thousands of miles of utility pipe in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. In 1968, Ernest Renda Contracting Company was listed in Engineering News Records top 400 contractors nationwide. He was elected into the Utility and Transportation Contractors Association of New Jersey Hall of Fame in 1999 for service and advancements made to the construction industry. . Mr. Renda was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5479 of Dunellen, the American Legion Post 284 of Whitehouse, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association Chapter 2 of Hanover and the Italian American Club of Whitehouse. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Lordes church in Whitehouse Station. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bibbiana Sabatino Renda; 2 sons, Ernest A. (Louisa) of Somerset and Alfred (Luisa) of Ringoes; 5 daughters, Carmela Sandy (Stephen) Lane of Bernardsville, Laura (Linus) Beck of Green Brook, Joanne (Ronald) Hogg of Marriottsville, MD, Michele (Brian Piantadosi) Renda of Whitehouse and Phyllis (Dean) DeStefano of Whitehouse Station and 17 grandchildren of whom he was most proud. He was predeceased by 3 sisters, Saveria, Maria and Angelina; and 6 brothers, Alessandro, Antonio, Vincenzo, Francesco, Guiseppe and Oscar. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, February 24 at 9:30am at Our Lady Of Lourdes Church, Whitehouse Station. Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
