Obituary of Marvin J. Gersh

Marvin J. Gersh, M.D., age 83 of Whitehouse Station, NJ. died Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at his home. Born in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Anna (Jaffe) Gersh. He had lived in Briarcliff Manor, NY before moving to Oldwick, NJ in 1979. He moved to Whitehouse Station, 6 years ago. He was a Captain in the United States Army during WWII. Dr. Gersh graduated from Alfred University and in 1947 from New York University Medical School. Dr. Gersh started his own private practice in Pediatricis in Tarrytown, NY. He served as Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Einstein Medical School and served as Director of the Outpatient Pediatrics Clinic at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. He was also Associate Professor of Pediatrics affilliated with the Family Practice Clinic at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison. Dr. Gersh retired 2 years ago from the Medical Disabilities Department of Determination in New Brunswick after 10 years. Dr. Gersh loved to read and he published two books, How to Raise Children at Home in Your Spare Time and the Handbook of Adolescents. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed scuba diving, running, swimming, sky diving and playing tennis. He also enjoyed spending time at his home in Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Mila (Maduro) Gersh who died in 1993. He is survived by his son, David Gersh of Bedminster, NJ; his daughter, Miriam Maduro of Pittsfield, MA; his two brothers, Eugene Gersh and his wife Bonnie of Pottersville, NJ and Joe Gersh of Queens, NY; his two grandchildren Adam and Mark Goodman and his beloved friend, Ellen Roshin-Thorn of Princeton, NJ. A service will be held Thursday, September 15, 2005 at 10:00 am at the Kearns Funeral Home in Whitehouse, NJ. Burial will be in the Jewish Community Center of Flemington Cemetery. Visitors will be received at Miriam Maduros home in Pittsfield, MA on Sunday, September 18th from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. and on Monday, from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be sent to: Hunterdon Hospice, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ or Hospice Care of the Berkshires, 369 South Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201 or Knesset Israel Hebrew School,16 Colt Road, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
