Obituary of Herbert W. Thorne

Herbert W. Thorne, age 77 of Whitehouse Station, NJ. died Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Integrated Health Services in Bound Brook. Born in Roselle Park, NJ, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Alma (Huelsenbeck) Thorne. Mr. Thorne married Bernice E. Brueckner in 1950. They lived in Roselle before moving to Whitehouse Station in 1961. Herb owned and operated Thornes Atlantic Service in Union, NJ from 1955 to 1961. He then owned Thornes Mobil Service and in 1970 opened Thornes Auto parts. In 1977, he started the Thornes Machine Shop and Auto Body Shop all located in Whitehouse Station. In 1985, he retired and moved to the Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral area in Florida. He returned to Whitehouse Station in 2002. Herb had his private pilot license and owned his own plane. He was a member of the APOA. In the 1950s he raced stock cars in Newark and Jersey City and was a member of NASCAR. He and his son, Rick built motors for off shore racing boats. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed surf -fishing and belonged to a bowling league at Air Park Lanes. Herb was a Mason and belonged to the Masonic Lodge 297 in Cape Canaveral, FL. He was also a member of the Eastern Star. Besides his wife, Bernice (Bea) of 56 years, he is survived by his son, Richard of Bath, PA; his daughters, Barbara and her husband Steven Chubb of Central Point, Oregon, Cindy and her husband, Paul Borsetti of Tewksbury Twp; and Linda and her husband, Michael England of Torrance, CA; his 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, a brother, Charles of Vero Beach, FL and his sister, Janet Thorne.
