Obituary of Eugene Henry James

Eugene Henry James, age 90 of Whitehouse Station, NJ, died Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Twp., NJ. Gene was born in Sleepy Creek, WV. He was the son of the late Grover and Caroline (Brewer) James. He grew up in Hancock, Maryland and had lived in Whitehouse Station since 1955. In 1941, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a First Lieutenant and B-17 pilot during World War II and was awarded the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters. After the war, Gene became a commercial airline pilot with Eastern Airlines. He retired as a Captain in 1976. He enjoyed working on his farm in Readington after his retirement. He attended the Somerville Methodist Church, belonged to the Whitehouse American Legion Post 284, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Somerville Hangar of the Quiet Birdmen. Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Helen V. (Zavaski) James, his loving daughters, Carol A. James of Sergeantsville, NJ; Dr. Janice E. James of Walla Walla, WA; Betty H. James of Poolesville, MD; and Anne M. James of Whitehouse Station. He is also survived by his brother, Edward James of Hancock, MD; his sister, Helen Palmer of Lancaster, PA; and 4 grandchildren. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ. A funeral service will be held during the evening visitation at 8:15. Burial will be Thursday at 2:00 P.M. in Rehobeth Methodist Church Cemetery in Pennsylvania.
