Obituary of Lavon H. Smith

Lavon H. Smith, age 94 of Whitehouse Station, NJ, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. Lavon was born in Garrett, IN, and had lived in Defiance, Ohio for most of his life before moving to Whitehouse Station 10 years ago. He had worked for National Memorials Company in Defiance, Ohio for 41 years before retiring in 1975. Lavon was a member of the International Association of Mechanics and was a member of the Elks Lodge in Lima, Ohio. Lavon was predeceased by his first wife, Norma Jean (VanVlerah) Smith who died in 1966 and his second wife, Helena (Koch) Smith who died in 1997. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Thompson and her husband Frank of Whitehouse Station, his four grandchildren, Michael, David, Joellyn Jean and Matthew and 9 great grandchildren. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, July 13, 2007 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse. A visitation will also be held on Sunday, July 15, 2007 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, 209 West 3rd Street, Delphos, OH. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at Harter & Schier Funeral Home with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, OH.
