Obituary of Dorothy Haley
DOROTHY MARILYN HALEY, 87, of Oldwick, formerly of Ocean County, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007 at home.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, she spent the better part of her life in the Toms River area, as well as Lavallette and Whiting, Manchester. She was married in Metuchen and then moved to Lavallette while her husband was stationed at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, flying blimps, and then later to Toms River. She spent the next 35 years or so of her life raising her large family. In addition, she worked a number of jobs, one of which was working at Ocean County Memorial Park Cemetery, where her husband soon followed and became the first manager of the cemetery.
She was a lover of animals of all sorts and volunteered her time with several animal organizations, raising money for their care as well as spay and neutering programs. She brought home a number of strays and injured animals through the years, and although she assured her husband she'd find homes for them, they usually became family members. She instilled this love for animals in her children.
Her family will greatly miss her but are comforted by the knowledge that her earthly suffering is over and she is reunited with her loved ones who have gone on before.
She was the daughter of the late Morton Allen Anderson and Agnes Marin Anderson; and was also predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Kenneth R. Haley Jr.; and then her companion of 16 years, William Stocker; followed by three granddaughters, Jenna Nicole Chambeau, Jillian Skylar Hafstad and Karen Caprio. She was the mother of six children, Marilyn J. Haley of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Barbara J. Haley of Andover, Janet J. Jaeger of Whiting, Virginia J. Haley of Toms River, Christine J. Hafstad of Oldwick, Tewksbury Township, and Robert Caprio of Aurora, Colo. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her beloved little dog, Dolly.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Kearns Funeral Home in Whitehouse Station and she was laid to rest at Ocean County Memorial Park.
