Obituary of Evelyn Ketrow

WHITEHOUSE--Evelyn (Long) Ketrow, age 77, formerly of Whitehouse, died Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at her home in Bound Brook. Born in West Cameron, PA to the late Marlin and Dorothy Long, she was the oldest of four daughters. As a child Evelyn traveled with her family to local churches, each playing an instrument and singing gospel songs. Evelyn moved to NJ in 1950 where she was a waitress at Howard Johnsons, before she began working at American Cyanamid for 20 years. She was also a part-time hairdresser at Tinos House of Beauty in Somerville for 20 years. In the 1970s Evelyn and her late husband, Andy Ketrow moved to Whitehouse. They were the owners of the Ridge Tavern for 30 years before retiring in 2004. In 2007, Evelyn moved to Bound Brook to be close to her daughter. Evelyn had many hobbies and interests, but her favorites were gardening and bird watching. Besides her husband Andy, Evelyn was predeceased by her two sisters, Laura Jane Mowery and Gloria Reed. Evelyn is survived by her daughter and grandson, Karen and Brandon Slanker of Bound Brook, her sister, Orie Tobias of Shamokin, PA, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held on Monday, September 15, 2008 at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse. Burial took place in Northumberland Memorial Park in Sunbury, PA.
