Obituary of Evelyn S Barnes

Evelyn S. Barnes, 89, passed away November 21, 2008 at the Little Brook Nursing Home in Califon where she resided under their loving care.She was born on September 19, 1919, in Kingston, NJ, the daughter of Benjamin A. and Maude Stewart. She lived in Middlesex, NJ for 50 years prior to moving to Hampton, NJ five years ago.Evelyn was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bound Brook, formerly serving as Treasurer, and was a long time member of the Somerville Civic League.Evelyn received a Masters of Nursing Degree from Yale University School of Nursing after completing her undergraduate degree at Beaver College in Pennsylvania.She was employed by Somerset Handicapped Children's Treatment Center in Bridgewater as a nurse and director for 42 years, where a playground was dedicated in her name. She was formerly employed by Foothill Acres Nursing Center and The Visiting Nurses Association of Somerset County.Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Thomas W. Barnes and two brothers, Benjamin R. (Dick) and Thomas C. Stewart. She is survived by a son, Stewart T. Barnes and his wife Maryann of Hampton, NJ, a daughter, Beverley Barnes of Clifton Park, NY, three sisters-in-law, Helen Golden, Thea Stewart and Pat Stewart, grandchildren, Kate Barnes and Kelly Barnes and her husband Jeffrey Yau and many nieces and nephews.A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Bound Brook, 150 W. Union Ave., Bound Brook, NJ. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service.A private interment will take place at the Kingston Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Kingston, NJ.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of Bound Brook Memorial Fund, 150 W. Union Ave. Bound Brook, NJ 08805 or to the Somerset Handicapped Childrens Treatment Center, 377 Union Ave. Bridgewater, NJ 08807Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway, Whitehouse, NJ.
