As a child I remember festive clambakes which I attended with my family and grandma (Mary Mulvaney). He always was available to help my Grandma (his sister) when she needed him. I will never forget when she was in Hunterdon Medical Center and he led the rosary for us..he was such a powerful speaker that I thought God must surely hear us. Years later after my Grandma had passed away, I thought if she could not be at my wedding, her brother could. I will forever remember him swinging around his bride (of almost 50 years at the time)Leona on the dance floor at my wedding to the polka. Their marriage and family is a strong inspiration..I would like to say if they ever need anything let me know, but sinceGreat-Uncle John taught his family about love, faith, and commitment it is more likely we will need them. God Bless & With Love-Mary Boykoff & Family

He will always be the picture of what a father is supposed to be, and what a man is supposed to be..he was a loving father, cared about what his children did and followed their exploits on the football field, the wrestling mat and the baseball diamonds of the county..I will remember his words to me each time I saw him to make sure I did good things for kids and to go to church...he was an amazing man and someone I can never forget..Be with God John.. God Bless

Dear Leona & Family
We are very sorry that we cannot make the viewing today, but we just wanted to let you know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
We had great times together watching our children in sports at NHHS and John was always a gentlemen. We hope that you find comfort in knowing that John lived with the love of God in his heart every day and he is now living with God up in his kingdom. May God have Mercy on him.

Dear Nanny,
Ever since I was younger and even now I have always loved visiting the "McGourty Farm." I remember going on long walks with you and Pop Pop around the block during the summer. Pop Pop always loved to whistle on our walks and sing. He had a beautiful voice and sometimes when everything is quiet, I think I can still hear him whistling. I respected and loved Pop Pop very much and I will miss him. With all my heart, Love Tara

I will miss Uncle Johnnie. He and my father were of another genration. We have witnessed the passing of a generation of men we may never see again. Born of immigrant parents, they were raised to work hard, adhere to the Catholic Church, and above all, swear loyality to the family. They ruled their homes with an "iron fist" and lived their lives without apologies. As a result, they left a legacy to those of us who are members of this great family, that we can be proud to be called, children of John McGourty, children of Ted McGourty, and children of the Irish McGourty clan. May I some day be the men they were............Patrick Joseph McGourty and Rose Dolan, please welcome your sons.

i very much admired Captain McGourty my entire career. he was an instructor in the Academy when I entered the State Police. I admired his straight forwardness and his devotion to our Catholic faith. We had a mutual friend from years ago, Father Edward J. Dalton who was his pastor and then became mine in Sayreville

John:
Please accept my condolences upon the passing of a Great Trooper, Captain J. McGourty. I have had many conversations with him over the years at the banquet in A.C. and he was always the perfect "Officer and a Gentleman".
I must say, each and every time Captain McGourty has been the topic of discussion with retired Troopers; He was always afforded the highest respect (and fear acquired from his Academy Instructor days).
God Bless You and the entire McGourty Family, Please give my regards to Tommy.
