Obituary of George Zavoda

George Zavoda, age 86, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Twp., NJ.Born in Linden, NJ, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Zavoda. He had been a resident of Whitehouse Station since 1953.George worked as a millwright for Merck Pharmaceutical Company in Rahway, NJ, retiring after 30 years.He was a sergeant in the Army during WWII serving with the 446th Air Service.George was a member of the Holy Ghost Orthodox Church in Manville. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and belonged to the NRA, Whitehouse Rod and Gun Club and the Higmar Striper Club.George was predeceased by his wife, Alexandria who died in 2007.He is survived by his daughter, Pat Zavoda and her husband, Pat Byers of New Orleans, LA; his sons, Richard Zavoda of Whitehouse Station and David Zavoda of Scottsburg, OR; and his granddaughter, Stacey Byers and her husband, Jonathan Shearer and his grandson, Geoffrey Byers. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Perezluha and her husband, Rudy of Marmora, NJ.George will be fondly remembered as one who loved family, friends and good food. He will be deeply and sadly missed by us all.Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 12, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse.A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Rural Hill Cemetery, Old Highway 28, Whitehouse.
