Obituary of Phyllis I Lumley

Phyllis I. Lumley, age 80, departed this life July 2, 2009 surrounded by her family. She was born in Lexington, MA on August 17, 1928. Phyllis moved to New York City, NY where she worked for nine years at The Association for Screenwriters, Composers, Authors, and Publishers. She married Thomas Lumley on November 28, 1948 and settled in the Martinsville section of Bridgewater, NJ where they raised their family. During this time, she worked at Prudential Pioneer Real Estate as a secretary for fifteen years. Upon retirement, they moved to Fort Myers Beach, FL where Phyllis purchased a new and used bookstore, The Beach Book Nook. She was owner and operator for ten years.Phyllis' perseverance and love of life was an inspiration to all that knew her. She was a wonderful human being, a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. A special thank you is given to Dr. Blankstein and the staff at the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center in Flemington, NJ. Their support and kindness was immeasurable.Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, of fifty years in 2006.She is survived by her daughters, Susan Lauffer and her husband, Robert of Bradenton, FL, Nancy Arbelo and her husband, Hector of Whitehouse Station, NJ, her son, Scott Lumley of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, six grandchildren, Courtney, Lindsay, Alex, Hailey, Stephanie, and Devon and two great-grandchildren.There will be a celebration service at the Stanton Reformed Church in Stanton, NJ on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at 1:00 PM.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center.Arrangements are being handled by the Kearns Funeral Home, Whitehouse, NJ www.kearnsfuneralhome.com .
