Obituary of Alice J Scott

Alice Johnson Scott, born May 27, 1921 in Pattenburg, NJ, was the daughter of Enoch Willard Johnson and Hazel Frances Curtis, and descendant of founding Hunterdon County families Johnson, Duckworth, Gano, Curtis, Cronce, Huff, Slater, Rockefeller and Thatcher. Alice died at home in Arbor Glen, Bridgewater, NJ on July 24, 2009. Alice spent her first nine years in Milford and then moved to Flemington upon the death of her father. She graduated from Flemington High School in 1938 and from Trenton State Teachers College in 1942. Participating in church and school activities, including the Flemington Children's Choir, Alice found her calling as a teacher. She also discovered that she enjoyed business while she worked for the Flemington Auction Market during the summer months of her teenage years. Her aunts and uncles told funny stories about how Alice's love of reading made her an inconsistent cow herder and a disinterested fruit/vegetable canner.Alice's skills in teaching and business logic served her well as a successful helpmate to her husband, a loving and guiding mother to her two daughters, a leader in church and scouts, and an active senior resident at Arbor Glen.Alice was married to Edward M. Scott in May 1946 who predeceased her in 1984. Her surviving family includes her sister, Irma Johnson Dawson, and nephew, Russell Dawson, her daughter, Dotty Scott Anderson, and her family, David P. Anderson, Jr. and Amy E. Anderson; and her daughter, Bonnie Scott Summer, and her family Rev. Dr. Mark Summer, and Scott and Jessica Summer.A private burial will be held at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Pittstown, NJ, with a memorial service to be held at a later date at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oldwick, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Alice Scott to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, North Branch, NJ.
