Obituary of David J. Morris

David Joseph Morris of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away on October 15, 2010 at home. He was 80 years old. Born in Weehawken NJ to Stanley and Margaret Morris, he grew up in Union City New Jersey, the youngest of 4 children. David is a Veteran of the US Naval Reserves. He graduated from St. Peters College in 1963. David began working for the Port Authority in 1948 at the age of 18, where he worked until 1996, concluding 48 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was the Chief of Aeronautical Operations at Newark Airport. His passion for aviation history and extensive collections of models and books on flying made him widely-known for his expertise on the subject. He was always active in his community, volunteer coaching the St. James CYO Basketball League, and later the sports teams of his children. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society at St. James Church. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Anna O'Dea Morris, his daughter Margaret of New York City, and his son John of Flemington, NJ in addition to 34 nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. in the narthex of St. James Church, 184 South Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. A Funeral liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of St. James Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge.
