Obituary of John Altonji

John Altonji, age 82 of Whitehouse Station, NJ, died Friday, November 26, 2010 at the Hunterdon Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Shafik Alfred and Najiba (Tahan) Altonji. John served in the army at the end of WWII and then went on to graduate from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He later received a Master's Degree from C.W. Post in Long Island. He had a long career as a mechanical engineer, a business executive, and finally building a global import/export business. He was the loving and devoted husband of Amalia Altonji, father of Mary, Robert and his wife, Debbie, Gerard and his wife, Beth, Gregory and his wife, Clare, Edmond and his wife, Kemi and Timothy, and grandfather of fifteen children. He is also survived by his two brothers, Joseph and James. John devoted his life to his family and his church, where he was a lector and teacher. He loved the sea and sailing, and will be remembered as a loving, gentle human being. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse.
