Obituary of Theresa Nealon

Theresa Nealon, age 80 of Madison, NJ, died peacefully, after a brief illness on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ. Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Kelly. Theresa grew up and lived in Jersey City before moving to Rutherford where she lived for 12 years. She spent the last 4 years in Madison. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Fairleigh Dickinson University and volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic, NJ. Theresa was a former communicant of St. Anne's Church and St. Paul of the Cross Church in Jersey City and St. Mary's Church in Rutherford. She was a very active volunteer for various organizations, including Meals on Wheels and Can Do in Jersey City, the Cursillo, St. Anne's, St. Mary's, and local support groups for the United Farm Workers and the Salesian Order's Bolivian missions. Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Gerald F. Nealon who died in 1992. She was also predeceased by her brother, John V. Kelly, in 2009. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Nealon Shapiro and her partner, Vivian Shapiro of NYC and her two sons, John Nealon and his wife, Pamela Lucas of Glastonbury, CT and Gerald and his wife, Julie Nealon of Whitehouse Station. Theresa is also survived by her 8 grandchildren: Jillian, Jenna, Luke, Cecelia, Gabrielle, Kevin, Joshua and Kendra. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse.
