Obituary of Mary S. DeRiso

Mary S. (Sprouls) DeRiso, age 84, of Springfield, VA, died Monday, March 4, 2013 in Springfield, VA. Born in Jersey City, NJ she was the daughter of the late John and Virginia Sprouls. Having lived for many years in North Bergen and more recently in Clinton Township, she moved to Springfield, VA two and a half years ago. She graduated from St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City and from Seton Hall University. She subsequently received two Masters Degrees, one from Rutgers University and the other from University of Southern California. She was a member of the American Horticultural Therapy Association in Gaithersburg, MD and the National Rehabilitation Association. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Michael in 1993, her brother, John Sprouls and her sister, Dolores Killen. She is survived by her eight children, John DeRiso (Roseanne) of Clinton, NJ; Barbara DeRiso (Donald Newman) of Pittsburgh, PA; Mary Jo Pristera (Al) of Richmond, VA; Ann DeRiso of Reading, PA; Michael DeRiso (Maria) of Richmond, VA; Rose Stabile (Ron) of Plantation, FL; Dolores Smith (Doug) of Clarksburg, VA; and Christine Kegley (Bryan) of Woodbridge, VA. She had fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Annandale, NJ. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton. In lieu of Flowers, pursuant to her wishes, memorial contributions may be made to Good Neighbors International, or The Greenspring Benevolent Fund C/O DeRiso 204 Woodcock Dr., Pittsburg Pa. 15215
